Testing Various ATK kits in Thailand

Testing Various ATK kits in Thailand

Test and compare various common COVID-19 ATK kits available in Thailand."

(Summary in Thai below)

Never thought I would be writing a post like this but I just found out this morning that I (finally) caught COVID-19, despite already having 4 doeses of vaccines.

As a born-to-be an engineer/math-and-science student major, I have always wonder how effective the various ATK kits I have accumulated really are. So, I took this opportunity to test them out.

All tests were carried out as per each ATK's instruction and at Bangkok's normal indoor temperature of around ~30°C.

Here are the results:

Gica by Testsealabs - Using Saliva
Gica by Testsealabs - Using Nasal
CoviFind - the only one unable to detect the virus

Summary:

Most test kits actually perform much better than I expected. Even the cheaper ones like GICA by Testsealabs were able to detect the present of COVID-19 accurately.

The only one that fail is the CoviFind, which was given to me for free by some company I can no longer remember. Now this might be a one off faulty test kit but I don't have anymore of that kit to retest.

I also notice that the saliva method produces much clearer lines compared to nasal swab. I am still waiting for the lan result to come back to know which strain I caught so I will have to come and update this post later.
